Apex Legends pro makes it to the final of Online Tournament #2 despite battling COVID-19
Team Liquid ended up placing seventh in the tournament.
Team Liquid Apex Legends pro, Brenden “Casper” Marino has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
The news comes right after Casper competed in the final of Apex Legends Online Tournament #2 last weekend.
Casper — along with Brandon “oh Nocturnal” Singer and Thomas “Flanker” Cook — competed as part of Team Liquid’s Blue squad.
On March 22, Casper tweeted that he was already showing symptoms of the COVID-19 coronavirus and, as the day continued, his condition only worsened.
Despite his young age, Casper is considered a high-risk patient due to pre-existing health complications he has dealt with since he was a child.
Woke up with a sore throat, spitting up blood, massive headache, chest pain. this is gonna be a long day.
As the day goes on, I’m getting drastically worse in terms of how I feel. Very hot, out of breath just going to the bathroom, kinda scared as I did almost die of pneumonia as a kid and had some mild asthma. Trying to power through for the team. But fuck I’m not feeling good.
On day one, the team placed seventh in both the round of 128 and the semifinals to secure a place in the day two finals, but Casper’s condition continued to deteriorate.
wait so are we in finals? can i go to the doctor now?
On the day of the finals, Casper discovered that Liquid’s player substitution request had been denied, forcing him to continue playing for the sake of his teammates.
Woke up to see our sub request for today was denied. So I gotta i gotta pull through the sickness today for the boys. Let’s get this $$
The team ended the tournament in seventh place, winning US$3,600 and securing 1,290 Apex Legends Global Series Points.
We got 7th. I feel like absolute death. And playing through that so sick was hard. 100+ fever. Everything, no excuses, just had some zones that didnt go in our favor, and couldt fully capitalize on the ones we had. Sucks that I feel like the boys were a man down. Definitely
After the tournament, Casper confirmed his COVID-19 test results. When asked, Casper says he probably contracted the virus while buying supplies.
COVID test came back positive. The nurses aren’t very concerned for someone my age it’s pretty much just like a cold. Said it should be about 8-12 more days till I should start feeling a lot better. Now to sit in my room for 2 weeks straight. Thanks everyone for the support.
Well because people panic buy and buy everything out and leave nothing for everyone. I had to constantly go to grocery stores everyday to get things before they sold out.
