The game’s animation studioSTUDIO4°Cconfirmed that Champions like the Oni and Tanuki for example, were based on Japanese stories and folktales.
“We connected those folktales and characters with each of the sport events included in the game,” said the studio. “Each character’s design was based on their original story image, but then adapted for the game.”
