Evo 2019 Day 2: Street Fighter V action featured plenty of upsets

Day 2 of Evo 2019 ended with multiple upsets, as many of the top-seeded Street Fighter V players have been knocked out of the competition.
The first top contender to be eliminated from the tournament was Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi. InPool K602, Tokido first lost to American Bison player, Toi “Toi” Bridges. Soon after, he exited the tournament with a loss to Johnny “Human Bomb” Cheng.
Tokido finished his Evo 2019 campaign in 49th place.
What went down in Street Fighter V on day two
Next to go was Daigo “The Beast” Umehara. InPool K612, he first lost to Ricki Ortiz, and then to Yoshihiko “Youshikibi” Kakiukin in the lower bracket.
Daigo finished the tournament at 33rd place.

What came next were two of the most unexpected eliminations of the tournament.
First, Victor “Punk” Woodley was sent to the lower bracket by Hiromiki “Itabashi Zangief” Kumada inPool K600. During thesemi-finals, Benjamin “Problem X” Simon lost to Yusuke “Momochi” Momochi. Then in a strange twist of fate, Punk and Problem X were again matched up against each other — continuing an odd, coincidental tradition that has formed between the players in recent tournaments.
This time around, Problem X walked away victorious as Punk exited the tournament with a 17th place finish.

But right after eliminating Punk, Problem X then lost to Arman “Phenom” Hanjani and finished at 13th place.

The eight Street Fighter V competitors who were able to survive Day 2 were Derek “Idom” Ruffin, Masato “Bonchan” Takahashi, Masahiro “Machabo” Tominaga, DC “Infexious” Coleman, ChaoZhou “Yang Mian” Huang, Adel “Big Bird” Anouche, Fujimura “Fujimura” Atsushi, and Hiroki “Kichipa-Mu” Asano.

After a wild, action-packed second day of Street Fighter V action, one thing is certain: at the end of Evo 2019, we will have a new Street Fighter V champion.
