G2’s tournament was a highly emotional one as Sage player, David “Davidp” Prins, sadly lost his father right in the middle of G2’s group stage match against FunPlus Phoenix.

While Davidp asked for a pause, the tournament organizers were not able to grant him one, and he eventually had to leave the game at 9-9, giving FunPlus Phoenix the 13-9 victory.

While most expected him to drop out of the tournament, Davidp decided to continue playing and dedicated his tournament performance to his father.

Decided to play today’s match and to continue playing the@AlliedEsportsx Ignition Series. It is not easy, not at all. I wanna do it for my father, i wanna do it to make him being proud of me, i want him to see that i’m gonna fight.I’m Professional and i’m gonna do my job.https://t.co/kpZ4E0mnQ7

Despite losing to FunPlus Phoenix, and tying with Team Liquid and Giants Gaming in the group stage, G2 rallied behind their emotional teammate in the playoffs, getting their revenge by sending both FunPlus Phoenix and Team Liquid to the lower bracket.

G2 eventually faced FunPlus Phoenix yet again in the grand final of the tournament. But the former PartyParrots and FABRIKEN lineup looked lost, while going up against Óscar “mixwell” Cañellas Colocho, Patryk “paTiTek” Fabrowski, and Charlie “ardiis” Svarenieks during the first map on Ascent.

FunPlus Phoenix tried to answer back in the second map by taking the 7-5 lead after halftime but G2 was always one step ahead of their opponents, getting the better trades, and having superior positioning throughout the match.

In the 22nd round of the final game, G2 made their move towards the B-site on Bind. After forcing FunPlus Phoenix to retreat towards obvious defender spots, G2 eliminated their competition and secured the B-site to win the round. G2 Esports’ Allied Esports Odyssey win gave the organization its fifth straight Ignition Series title.

The Allied Esports Odyssey tournament showcased G2’s unbreakable resolve that proved it can be clutch in any type of situation. G2 also remains the best strategist in European Valorant, as the team notably made the fewest mistakes during its 4-0 run in the playoffs.
