Mandrake qualifies for the Capcom Cup amid NA East online qualifier controversies
Capcom’s North American East qualifier had a lot SFV pros mad about the new stage rule change.
The 2020 Capcom Pro Tour circuit continued with the North American East 1 online qualifier.
After a bizarre turn of events, Dominican Republic player Yoryi “DR Mandrake” Bueno became the second player to qualify for Capcom Cup 2020, after he defeated an unknown Vega player in the Grand Final who goes by the name “MetroM”.
Congratulations to@DRmandrake001for winning the Capcom ProTour Online: North America East 1 Qualifier!1st:@DRmandrake0012nd:@MetroM2253rd:@TauntButton4th:@iDomNYC5th:@Hoji_FGC5th:@CJ_Truth7th:@BurkishMan7th:@Bri4nFpic.twitter.com/a4wWGknPld
MetroM got off to a strong start by winning the first two games of the series in convincing fashion. He even clutched out the round with a sick whiff punish into Critical Art finisher which won him his fourth straight round.
MetroM would eventually reset the bracket by winning the fourth game of the first set as well.
After the reset, Mandrake responded by winning five straight rounds for himself, employing a more offensive approach with multiple Chariot Tackle, Knee Drop, and Headbutt attacks.
With his tournament life on the line, MetroM would pull off two clutch rounds against Mandrake.
However, In the final round of the series, Mandrake caught MetroM with a random Headbutt to finish the set.
After the tournament, a number of participants, including Du “NuckleDu” Dang, Chakotay “ElChakotay” Andrich, and even Capcom Cup 2019 winner Derek “iDom” Ruffin expressed their displeasure in Capcom’s decision to remove The Grid as the chosen stage for online matches.
Leading up to the losers’ semifinal match between iDom and MetroM, the lag got so bad that iDom decided to forfeit the match instead. ElChakotay also made the same decision, and forfeited his losers’ final match against MetroM.
I have literally 3 people blacklisted and Metro M is one of them
If only you could’ve seen that fight from my end lol ggs thanks capcom for banning the grid ????????????
I really don’t understand why Capcom would ban the grid. That was one of the laggiest matches I’ve ever played. Urien + non grid stage.. Please change this rule, it makes no sense.@CapcomFighters
The next Capcom Pro Tour online qualifier is set to take place on June 27 with the Southeast Asia East 1 tournament.
