One Piece live action silences doubters, surpasses these anime adaptations on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix’s One Piece live action series had a highly successful debut, evident in its initial score on Rotten Tomatoes, a popular website that aggregates and displays reviews and ratings for movies and TV shows from both critics and audiences.

Thishighly anticipated Hollywood adaptation, which premiered on August 31, has garnered praise from both devoted fans and newcomers alike.

One Piece live action receives overwhelmingly positive reviews and ratings on Rotten Tomatoes

The One Piece live action series on Netflix has achieved remarkable ratings as of writing, boasting a 96% audience score from over 10,000 users and an 83% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of Netflix’s most successful drama adaptations.

Tomatometer is a rating system on the platform that reflects the percentage of positive reviews from critics for a movie or TV show.

In comparison, sci-fi series Cowboy Bebop and thriller movie Death Note, previous Netflix adaptations, fell short with lower scores mainly due to their deviations from the source material, according to reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

The live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop received a 60% audience score and a 46% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the Death Note movie fared even worse with a 23% audience rating and a 36% Tomatometer rating.

The success of the live action adaptation of One Piece can be attributed to creator Eiichiro Oda’s involvement and showrunner Matt Owens’ passion for the series.

“This is a show that was done by a massive group of hardworking and creative people who all love One Piece,”Owens said in a press release.
