Rocket League moving to Epic Games Store as free-to-play exclusive
The surprise car-soccer hit is leaving the Steam digital storefront soon.
After wrapping up its festivefifth anniversary limited-time modes, Rocket League is all set to launch into a brand new chapter — and it’s about to do so with a bang. The smash-hit “soccar” game is going free-to-play later this summer, according to thegame’s official blog.

That’s not the only change coming to Rocket League though. The surprisingly popular sports-action hybrid is also making its long awaited move to the Epic Games Store.
While this means Rocket League will soon leave the Steam storefront, current Rocket League players have no reason to worry. If you already have the game on Steam, you can still use the client to launch and play it. Your copy of the game will also still receive updates and new features after the switch.
The Psyonix Team promises that Rocket League will retain the same core gameplay that made it so beloved among gamers, while also teasing big improvements for the game’s Tournaments and Challenges.
Even better, Rocket League on the Epic Games Store will support cross-platform play regardless what device or platform you play on.
Rocket League fans who have already played the game online before the switch will automatically be rewarded with Legacy status, along with in-game perks like:
A bonus Faded Cosmos boost will also be gifted to anyone who has played the game online prior to the Psyonix Team’s July 21 announcement.
In addition, any inventory that you have earned through the previous five years will remain yours even after the game goes free-to-play. All items, Rocket Pass, and Competitive Rank progress will be tied to your Epic Games Account.
Rocket League’s big move to the Epic Games Store comes roughly a year afterthe Fortnite: Battle Royale developer acquired Psyonix. The game is poised to grow even more popular with greater exposure to Epic Games’ already vast player base. There is no official date for the game’s official release on Epic’s digital storefront yet, however.
